The Louiselle and Castiglione Murders

Charles David Shaw found guilty 40 years later

In Episode 71 of the podcast we begin a series of episodes about Suburban Murder. Specifically about murders that have taken place in and around Livonia, Michigan.

Here we’ve collected some facts, photos and newspaper articles about the disappearances, the murders and the parties involved.

Kimberly Louiselle

Last seen on March 20th, 1982. She was dropped off at a gas station on the corner of Merriman and Eight Mile.

Christina Castiglione

Last seen on March 19th, 1983. Her boyfriend saw her walking along Five Mile Road west of Telegraph between Livonia and Redford.

The Abductions

Both girls were alone and possibly looking for a ride. Charles David Shaw lived within five miles of both abductions and police were given a tip regarding Shaw but never acted on it.

The Location of the Bodies

Both Louiselle and Castiglione were found in wooded state owned land northwest of Livonia.

A Timeline

All three people involved in the story died within two years of each other. Charles David Shaw accidentally took his own life in November of 1983, just eight months after murdering Castiglione.

High School Yearbook Photos

Louiselle attended South Lyon High School and was in the 10th grade when she was abducted and murdered. Castiglione had recently graduated from Redford Union. It’s likely that Shaw went to the former Bentley High School in Livonia in the early 1970s. Only one photo was found of him.

Cold Cases for 40 years

Thanks to detectives that never gave up, new technology and some savvy Michigan State University criminal justice interns, the cases were finally solved forty years after the crimes were committed.

Where they rest

Both of Shaw’s known victims happen to be buried in the same place – Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan. It’s owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit.
