A Blast from the Past

While visiting the Indiana State Library Digital Collections Archive (as one does), I stumbled upon a pair of vintage toy catalogs from the 1950s. Whether you are a baby boomer who played with some of these toys, a collector, or just someone who appreciates how simple and cool things were in the fifties, then you should enjoy looking through the catalogs. I know I did.

L.S. Ayers & Co. 1954 Christmas Catalog

L. S. Ayres and Company was the first modern department store in Indianapolis and one of the city’s major retailers for decades. It was eventually bought by Macy’s.

Auburn Rubber Toys Catalog 1953

The Auburn Rubber Company was a rubber products manufacturer best known for its line of children’s toys. In 1935, it began making rubber toys, including a variety of toy cars, trucks, tractors, and animals. During World War II, the company made soles for combat boots. The company was sold in 1959.
